Misty Wilson
Winnsboro, LA
Excelsior College®, Associate of Science in Nursing
Misty Wilson knew what she wanted to do when she entered the nursing profession and had the support of her family. “I decided to become a nurse because I wanted to help people, mostly elderly people,” she said. “I wanted to do it right out of high school, but I didn’t have the means. My daddy really pushed me to be a nurse to take care of him when he got older.”
The College Network® turned out to be a good fit for Misty and how she studies. “I had a friend that had used The College Network. She had a good experience with it. When I met with The Program Advisor, he was very motivational but made it very clear that you had to study or you wouldn’t get anywhere,” she said.
She enjoyed the study materials. “The way the modules are set up is very easy to follow,” Misty said. “You start in one part and it leads up to the next thing and the next thing. You retain it when you read it. I was surprised at how much I retained. The practice tests really help you too. I know that if you just study an hour a day, you can get it done. You would be surprised at how much an hour of reading a chapter will get you through the course before you know it.”
The first exam was scary, but Misty got through it with no problem. “The first test I took was Psychology. When I got there, I was very nervous. I didn’t know what to expect with computer-based testing. I’d been out of school for fifteen years or longer. But, when I got to it, it wasn’t as hard as I thought. You imagine the worst, but The College Network prepares you so much for what’s on the test,” she said.
Misty’s goals are clear and she intends on meeting them. “I’ve been an LPN for five years. I do the work that RNs do, but I do not get paid what the RNs get paid. I get tired of doing the work that they do and not getting compensated for it. That’s my reason for being an RN,” she explained.
