Becoming an RN was something that Melodie Walton had always planned on, but just hadn’t made time for. “I talked about it for a long time. I was getting feedback from many different angles. Then I just did it,” she says.

For Melodie, an online degree from Excelsior College® was the best option, because it did not interrupt her other responsibilities. “As an LPN I was offered a job I could not otherwise accept if I was in a classroom,” she explains.

Melodie says going back to school is difficult, but it is also rewarding. I was nervous during my first exam and I learned to use any practice test available to me. That reduced my nervousness,” Melodie says.

Melodie knows the value of earning her advanced nursing degree. “I will be able to get the job I have wanted. The saying goes ‘if you are doing what you want to do for a living, you will never work a day in your life.’”

But, for Melodie, one of the most rewarding things about earning her degree is the impact this had on her son. “I am an example to my adult son who could not decide what he wanted to do. He is enrolling in a college program.”
