Excelsior College®, Associate of Science in Nursing

Frank Kuziel had many reasons for becoming a nurse. “Nursing in itself is very, very flexible. What also appealed to me is that if I could work the weekends, I could go to college Monday through Friday which is what I did. It might be a little bit of a workaholic syndrome, but it worked very well for me. The benefits of nursing are I’ve never known the unemployment rate to be high. Particularly, the more experience you have, the more readily you can find work. That wasn’t always the case as an LPN. There were times when a registered nurse was probably what they were looking for. So, one of the reasons to continue my pursuit in nursing and get my RN is for job security,” he said.

Frank finds the flexibility of the field challenging as well. “There are things about nursing that are much more beneficial than other fields. Currently, I also work in health information management. I see nursing being both a benefit and a strategic advantage to my own future in that it has a lot of applications in healthcare. Nursing covers a whole broad expanse and, if I can marry that with my other profession, there is a tremendous amount of potential to do all kinds of work in healthcare,” he said.

Frank needed the flexibility of The College Network® to fit his lifestyle. “My current job takes me to different places. I’m not able to study and stay in one particular locale. I have to move all over the state. It makes a traditional nursing program out of the question. Wherever my current job takes me, I can still get the work done,” he said.

For those starting a program with The College Network, Frank feels specific traits are necessary. “The most challenging things to get the RN through The College Network are focus and self-discipline. With those two attributes, you can pretty much get through each module. Stay focused. Maintain self-discipline. Keep studying,” he said.

Frank is happy to have chosen The College Network. “The modules are pretty clear, pretty concise. It’s pretty direct. It closely follows the exams. The modules, as I said, are pretty concise so there are no surprises when you take the exam which is really beneficial,” he said.
