As a small-business owner, Anique Augustus uses her Human Resources Studies Certificate from eCornell every day. “I’m a strong believer in continuous learning and I really wanted to gain more knowledge about all areas of human resources,” says Anique.

She already had her bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from California State University, Los Angeles, but wanted more human resources training, particularly in benefits, compensation, and employment laws.

“I compared the certificate program to other institutions, and I found The College Network® and eCornell to be more detailed, thorough, and less expensive. And, I really liked that I was getting a certificate through an Ivy League institution,” says Anique. “The instructors had extensive work experience and brought great insight and understanding to the course discussions.”

As a single working mother with a young child, Anique appreciated the flexibility of online classes. “It was a good fit for me. I really wanted to study online, but I also wanted the Ivy League credential, something future employers would recognize,” says Anique.

She owns an after-school and home-school tutorial company now, but Anique previously worked as a recruiter in the petro-chemical industry and for a technology company in California.

“I did think the program was intense, but I learned how to manage my time well so working and going to school would not be as stressful. I did my studying in the evenings and on the weekends,” says Anique. “And I found that I really enjoyed the course materials.”

Anique found the Academic Support Department especially helpful. “The staff was really good and always answered my questions,” says Anique. She plans to pursue her master’s degree, in either business or education, again through online coursework.

“I called a lot of schools when I was looking to further my education, and the price for this certificate is really great,” says Anique. “I felt the courses were thorough and I was really able to get my arms around the learning.”
