Edwin E. Siliezar
Falls Church, VA
Excelsior College, Associate of Science in Nursing
Regis University, Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Edwin E. Siliezar worked as a licensed practical nurse for 10 years before earning his Associate of Science in Nursing degree through The College Network® and Excelsior College®. According to Edwin, one of the best benefits of earning his degree and RN license has been “a really big raise!”
“I was looking for a challenge outside of the traditional classroom, and when I heard of The College Network and its success, I wanted to try it. I was more than ready and willing to go the extra mile to succeed,” says Edwin.
Edwin had previously started an RN program, but didn’t complete it. “I’m just not a desk kind of student. I don’t want to sit and listen to a lecture,” says Edwin. “The College Network was instrumental to my learning needs. I could learn completely at my pace.” He completed his program in only 23 months, from buying his books to passing his boards.
His healthcare training began while he was serving as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy. After leaving the service, he challenged the LPN licensure and earned his LPN. “As an LPN, you work alongside people making more money than you, and you are doing the same work. It motivated me to make time to study. I took my books with me wherever I went,” says Edwin.
“I think the more you use the Comprehensive Learning Modules™, the more prepared you are for the exams,” says Edwin. “And I spoke to the support line many, many times!” He passed seven equivalency exams in earning his ASN.
Edwin now works as a utilization review nurse and recently started on his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree through The College Network and Regis University. “Some places are starting to phase out the associate-prepared RNs, so I need my BSN for career advancement,” says Edwin.
“I really enjoy being able to walk into any kind of setting and get a job,” says Edwin. “My job satisfaction has increased. I’m well paid and well rested. Earning my degree has improved my life professionally and personally.”
