Excelsior College®, Associate of Science in Nursing

Donita Davis-Dalton loves her career working in hospice.  Helping people has always appealed to her. “I spent sixteen years in the profession and wanted to learn more,” she said of her decision to return to school.

Donita knew she wasn’t an average student. “I was a 39-year-old, non-traditional student with three kids and a husband,” she said.

She also couldn’t fathom leaving the job and patients who she cares for dearly. “With The College Network®, I was allowed to keep the job that I love and still get practical experience,” Donita said.

Donita took one day a week off to study and reviewed her materials in the evenings when her children were asleep.  She took advantage of all her available resources.  “I found the online Resource Center to be my most valuable tool. The area I live in is very rural, and it helps to talk to others who are doing the same thing. We are making a social network of our own here,” she said. “In the online Resource Center, I would take the practice tests and review the condensed information.”

Having a positive experience with distance learning, Donita has referred many people to The College Network. “I want to help others receive their education at a good price. I think it is our responsibility to encourage others to make themselves better. I believe that education is the key to helping people overcome most obstacles,” she said.

For those starting out, Donita reminds them to stay structured. “Make your schedule and stick to it, even if it has to be a day-by-day schedule,” she said.
