On a flight a few weeks ago, I struck up a conversation with a lady sitting beside me dressed in blue scrubs. She lives outside of Texas but works in Houston at one of our fine hospitals in the medical center. I asked her why she would live in one state and work in another. She explained she was a nurse practitioner and absolutely loved what she does but the average pay for practitioners where she lives is around 90K a year, but she earns 200K in Houston.
She told she works about 3 days straight and is home for about 7. There are a growing number of nurse practitioner programs across the country that can be completed online with the clinical portion done locally where the nurse lives. One of those schools is the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
Just as exciting there are an increasing number of non-nurse bachelors degree in anything to BSN degree programs across the U.S. that can be completed in 12 to 18 months!
The passport in most cases to becoming a nurse practitioner is a BSN. The College Network offers a variety of online RN to BSN programs that can be completed while working full time. For more information, please contact The College Network online or call 1-800-395-1014.
