BUCEC, Certificate of Project Management

Robert had been a project manager for ten years when he decided to obtain his Project Management Certificate from Boston University Corporate Education Center (BUCEC) because he “noticed that the PMP credential was becoming more important to employers.” Once he obtained his certificate, it created the yearning to continue his education.

“Once you get yourself learning again, it is natural to go on to the next certificate. Working toward a new goal and recommitting yourself brings about a new passion for learning.” He was able to take his experience and formalize it—learning new technology and paradigms.

He feels that with his PMP certification he is at a higher level of professionalism and can go head-to-head with anyone. Plus, with the job market being as competitive as it is right now, a PMP certification is not just nice to have, it is becoming a requirement. Robert equates a project manager with a PMP certification to an accountant being a CPA.

Robert credits his Program Advisor with helping him overcome his initial fears about not being prepared for the PMP exam by recommending that he study a little each day.

He would pack up his laptop and head to his local Starbucks® to learn at his own pace in comfortable surroundings. He feels that he isn’t sure where he would be without making the decision to continue his education and earn his PMP certification.

Robert is now a consultant for the Federal Government, and because he has his BUCEC certificate, he has been able to work on more interesting IT projects for them. Robert’s father, who is ninety-one years old and up until recently taught medicine, passed down a kernel of wisdom that he took to heart: “They can never take the school away from you.”
