Sherrie Davis

Excelsior College®, Associate of Science in Nursing
Sherrie Davis started her career as an LPN when her son was born. After working in a pediatric office for over 15 years, she decided that the time to further her education had come. “I felt like I was doing an RN’s job already without the recognition or the pay. After 15 and a half years, it was time to make a change,” she said.
Sherrie had a busy home life with two kids and often worked more than 40 hours a week. Her time for studying was limited so traditional college wasn’t an option. The College Network® offered her an alternative. “It wasn’t easy, but I did it. Oftentimes, I had to stay up later to study since the kids had homework and other things that needed to be done, but I kept with it. I felt prepared for the tests, and the testing sites were close to my home,” Sherrie said.
Since becoming an RN, Sherrie has accepted a job in the pediatric unit at a hospital. She loves her job and says the transition was an easy one since she’d already worked in pediatrics. “The most enjoyable part of school was knowing what the end result would be. I’ve wanted to be an RN since childhood. If it hadn’t been for at-home study, I couldn’t have done this,” she said.
Sherrie wants other students to remember to keep studying even when the road gets rough. “Stay up an hour later if you need to. Keep striving toward your goals. You’ll get there,” Sherrie said.
